If you are interested in Wheelchair Accessible Holiday Accommodation in Totland Bay, Isle of Wight, England this cottage prime location. It is very close to the beach with lovely sea views, and its own large private garden, ideal for people of all ages to explore and enjoy. The cottage is located 10 mins from the Yarmouth ferry, 4/5 mins from the beach, with lots of local amenities, including shops, restaurants, & the coast, all within walking distance. A large sunny garden (with trees for shade) provides a place to relax for all the family.
Totland Bay is one of 105 beaches in the British Isles to have won a 2016 Quality Coast Award. It also forms a part of the Needles Marine Protected Area.
Access
Totland can be enjoyed by those who are less able to walk or who may rely on a wheelchair. The bay can be accessed by car with parking along the waterfront. There is a pedestrian walkway that runs from Totland Bay to Colwell Bay and I know from past visitors that this gives an unusual opportunity for someone in a wheelchair to experience the sea at high tide at close hand. Unfortunately there is now a small section with a steeper gradient but with assistance it may be possible for this to be negotiated in a wheelchair.
Accommodation
The property is a single storey property which was refurbished in 2016 to provide an open plan living/dining and kitchen area. It has new timber flooring throughout. The living room has two wide opening double glazed doors that open 180 degrees to give easy access to the garden. The garden is enclosed by a white timber picket fence at the front and a combination of trees/hedge/fence & gates. Parking is at the rear or in a lay-by opposite to the property .
The property has a new shower room with a low profile shower, shower seat, wash basin and toilet. Heating and hot water are provided by a new combi boiler.
Facilities
There are two bedrooms, the first with a king size bed and a single, the second room has two single beds. There is also an outside annex, accessed via a covered walkway with two single beds (users will need to use the toilet facilities in the main house). The annex is also useful as a quiet work space. It's particularly nice to take a quiet early morning or evening stroll along the waterfront or to enjoy an early morning or evening dip. The recent renovation and addition of the wide double glazed living room doors means that it is now possible to sit inside and to gaze out to sea and/or watch the often dramatic sunsets from the warmth and comfort of your living room.
Food and Drink
The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar located on the Totland seafront the restaurant has a new chef (2016) and now serves some great food. I had a Greek Kleftiko but the menu has a range of dishes including fresh fish. At the other end of the seafront walkway is Colwell Bay and, again on the waterfront, is 'The Hut' which also has a reputation for great fish dishes. Both are within easy walking distance or can be driven to if need be.
Historic Yarmouth too has a lovely selection of restaurants and hostelries including 'Yarmouth Spice' a great Indian restaurant, 'On the Rocks' etc. Nearby pubs include the well known 'Highdown' & 'The Red Lion'.
Suitable For
Suitable for everyone! - Ideal to enjoy the sea air and blow the cobwebs away! Totland offer an ideal base for a restful holiday or weekend break away from it all, whatever the season, no matter the weather.
