Whether you wish to simply relax in a tranquil natural environment or use the cottage as a base for visiting local attractions, this cottage offers relaxing and comfortable accommodation. Situated on the woodland edge at the bottom of the spectacular sandstone gorge known locally as 'The Rock', the cottage offers a peaceful retreat in a beautiful natural setting with views of the garden, pond, and woodland.
Access
The cottage is wheelchair accessible, it provides:
In side doors to the bedroom and wet-room are 82 cm wide. Under the bed has a clearance of 21 cm to allow use of a hoist if needed. (A hoist is not supplied but we can work with you to arrange for one to be delivered if needed). One side of the bed is accessible by a wheelchair. There is a gap of 105 cm between the edge of the bed and the bedroom wall. The height from the floor to the top of the mattress is 59 cm.
The kitchen and dining area are accessible by wheel chair The oven and grill are under the counter although the sink and kitchen work surfaces are the standard height of 90cm. The wet-room has an open shower area of 130cm x 85 cm with a movable shower seat. There is room for a wheel chair up one side of the toilet. The toilet seat is 45 cm above floor height. The wash basin is of a semi pedestal design.
Accommodation
Indoors
The accommodation may be rented as a one or two bedroom holiday let. There is a sofa bed in the living room area which will sleep an additional two adults for an additional charge. The two bedrooms each sleep two people. Only downstairs is wheel chair accessible. The cottage is configured so that if you only wish to rent the downstairs this is possible as privacy is easily maintained by locking an internal oak door leading from the downstairs to a rear lobby with private entrance. Both the beds are king-sized and sheets, duvets, and four standard-size pillows are supplied.
Outside
A covered and lit patio area with table and chairs enable al fresco dining. The drive and hard standing around the building and patio are finished with interlocking gravel which while not ideal does offer a firm enough base for most wheelchair users. The path along the woodland edge to the pond and seating/barbecue area has a plastic mesh through which grass has been grown to facilitate wheelchair access. Table, chairs, a fire bowl and a double hammock will help you make the most of the garden.
Facilities
There is Wi-Fi throughout the property but no mobile phone signal so you may wish to ensure you can use internet based telephone if this is important for you. There is no washing machine at the cottage although a 9kg load of laundry can be washed and dried by arrangement at a cost.
Food and Drink
Fresh eggs and home reared meats are available from the owner's neighbours and Offley Brook Water Mill (just 200 metres upstream supplies stone ground flour). The small country town Eccleshall is 3 miles away and has supermarkets, village stores, a high-class butcher as well as cafes, pubs, and restaurants. The closest pub is The Star Inn at Copmere just 1 mile away.
