Location
Montargen, which is old french and means mountain of silver, is a beautiful private property set in 7.8 acres of landscaped grounds on the slopes of a secluded valley on the outskirts of the ancient village of Saint-Maurin in South West France. “La Séoune” and “Le Sempesserre” (named after local rivers) are the two accessible self-catering holiday gites converted from the property’s guest house. This property is thought to have been built at a later date, possibly during the French revolution in the late 18th century to serve as a staging post for horseback travellers and messengers.

The neighbours are mostly French farmers, as the property is surrounded by unspoilt working arable farmlands, unchanged for centuries. The grounds contain, amongst other things, a ruined tower and natural springs with black and golden carp and local frogs populating the spring pools. There are ‘resident’ deer that wander the property and offer occasional sightings to the vigilant.

Access
Able-bodied and disabled visitors can holiday together at Montargen without differentiation. Disabled people can holiday alone (independent wheelchair user), with family, or with professional carers living in the gite to provide the necessary support. The less mobile and the elderly will also enjoy many of the features provided. The gites at Montargen have been awarded the highest accreditation in France, Tourisme & Handicap, from the Association Tourisme & Handicaps. The award is for all 4 categories available, being handicap moteur, mental, auditif and visuel (physical, mental, hearing and visual impairments).

The accommodation has been designed to incorporate the necessary equipment for the disabled in a non-clinical and unobtrusive way. There are two gites, both on a single floor with accessible living space including bedrooms, accessible wheel-in shower rooms and specially designed kitchens. A two level system has been used in the gites kitchens, with sinks, cookers and hob units at wheelchair level. Oven and hob controls are at the front.

Each gite has its own car parking spaces immediately outside the door. There are no steps or ramps throughout. Both gites have wide doorways and passages, accessible plugs and switches at wheelchair height and full height safety glass doors. All taps (faucets) are lever taps and there are grab rails in the wheel-in shower rooms.

Assistance dogs are welcomed, and cots and high chairs are available for infants.
