Location
The accessible health hotel Mar y Sol is located in the southwest of Tenerife. A fully accessible, specialist property designed with the wheelchair-user in mind - featuring spacious apartments and studios. The swimming pool is well equipped with hoists and ramps, and you can enjoy one of the many ‘water jets’ to give you a ‘hydrotherapy style massage while you’re in the pool. The architecture of the Mar y Sol is a spanish-style construction, built on two and three levels accessible through out by lifts.
Three further companys are associated with the hotel:The Center for Prevention and Rehabilitation Teralava, the Diving Center Mar y Sol Aquasport and the Disability Service Station, Lero.
Access
Access is good in and around the complex. The few steps you come across within the complex can be avoided using ramps. Although the surrounding area is fairly flat, the resort centre and seaside are down an incline. There are accessible taxis to the local town of Los cristianos. The swimming pool has a hoist and there is also ramped access. Because the way down to the sea is sloping, it is very easy to reach the beach and the centre of town. Returning to the hotel may present problems for guests with restricted mobility but this can be overcome by using either an electric wheelchair. Less demanding but longer routes to the beach are an option and electric scooters and chairs are available for rent. The Sea front paseo is relatively flat and stretches all the way to the neighbouring resort of Playa de Las Americas.

Facilities
There are two swimming pools and one therapy pool. The water temperature of the heated pool is kept at 32 degrees C throughout the whole year, and provides neck-showers (back of the neck), whirl, water cascades, jacuzzis and massage showers. The second swimming pool has a water temperature between 22 degrees C and 25 degrees C, depending on the season and is especially popular with swimmers. Both the swimming pools have a pool hoist. The therapy pool has a temperature of 24 degrees C and is designed for walking exercises.
For comfort, the pool area is equipped with a large number of sun-beds that have been specially designed for the Mar y Sol. Their height allows wheelchair-users to transfer onto the sun-beds with ease and the large sunshades and palm trees offer shelter from the sun. The pool area is also provided with a non-smoking area. A lifeguard supervises the pool 8 hours a day to ensure the safety of all swimming-pool users.
The Arona Council has headed the initiative started in 2004 to turn Playa de Las Vistas into one of the most accessible beaches in Spain. Sunshades and sunbeds are set on wooden decking which extend all the way to the sea. Roll-up walkways that reach from the promenade up to the platforms and roomy showers and toilets are another positive result of this project. Disabled guests who wish to use these facilities may obtain the European Key totally free of charge at hotel reception upon leaving a deposit. This initiative also includes a lifeguard team to help the disabled into the sea. Amphibian wheel chairs are used for this purpose and the service is totally free of charge, but must be pre-booked.
The hotel has its own Prevention and Rehabilitation Centre, Teralava. This centre unites traditional with modern medicine through the combination of classical, therapeutic approaches with holistic, alternative methods. The unique therapy applications and personal assistance headed by qualified therapists from Teralava help to harmonize and stabilize body and soul.
Mar y Sol is the ideal place to enjoy a relaxing and entertaining holiday. Apart from the after-dinner entertainment programme in the Restaurant, there is a team of activity organisers and physiotherapists, who work 5 days a week, both to entertain and offer a fitness programme to everyone. - The recently renovated fully accessible one bedroom superior apartments have twin beds plus a living area containing twin rollaway beds. Bathroom with wheel-in shower and grab rails at WC. Small integral kitchenette. Balcony or patio area.
- Premium one bedroom apartments are equipped the same as the superior apartments but are more spacious and have large terraces or balconies. Wheel-in shower with grab rails at the shower and toilet.
- Studios sleeping 2 in the living area on rollaway beds. These are equppied with the same facilities as the standard apartments.
- Superior studios are available, and are equipped with wheel-in shower with grab rails at the shower and toilet.
